How much does Intercom cost? The short answer: the price has two parts. You pay per seat for each teammate, from $29 to $132 per seat per month billed annually, and you pay for usage, mainly $0.99 for every successful outcome from Fin, its AI agent. Add-ons and channels like SMS and WhatsApp come on top.
That second part is what surprises people. A small team looks at the seat price, thinks "about $100 a month", and then sees a much bigger bill once the AI agent starts answering hundreds of conversations.
Below we break down every Intercom plan, the AI pricing, the add-ons, real cost examples for small and mid-size teams, and ways to keep the bill under control. All numbers come from Intercom's official pricing page, checked on 25 October 2026, and its pricing guide. Pricing changes, so confirm before you buy. And yes, we make a competing product, so we keep our pitch to one clearly marked section.
Intercom pricing 2026 at a glance
| Plan | Per seat / month (billed annually) | Per seat / month (billed monthly) | AI agent |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $29 (shown as $19 for new customers, a 35% discount) | $39 | $0.99 per outcome |
| Advanced | $85 | $99 | $0.99 per outcome |
| Expert | $132 | Annual billing | $0.99 per outcome |
| Fin only (with another helpdesk) | No seats required | From $0.99 per outcome | |
Monthly prices come from the pricing guide, which also says monthly billing is only offered on Essential and Advanced. Intercom offers a pricing calculator on its site if you want to get an estimated cost for your team.
How Intercom pricing works: the pricing structure
Intercom describes its pricing in two parts: seats and usage.
- Seats. Every agent who answers customers needs a full seat on your tier. Five agents on Advanced means five seats at $85 each.
- Usage. AI agent outcomes, outbound email campaigns, SMS, WhatsApp and phone are charged on top, depending on your usage.
The Advanced and Expert plans include free Lite seats (20 and 50), meant for teammates who need limited access, not full agents. Essential has none listed.
Included on all tiers: unlimited live chat, support email, in-app chat, banners and tooltips. So the software subscription covers the core messaging on every plan. Usage is where the bill grows.
Intercom plans explained
Essential: $29 per seat per month
The entry tier. It includes Fin for service, sales and ecommerce, the Intercom Messenger (the chat widget), a shared inbox with ticketing, pre-built reports and a public help center.
Who it fits: small teams that want a polished chat widget and a basic support setup. The limit you'll hit first is automation, because the workflow builder and multiple team inboxes sit on Advanced.
Advanced: $85 per seat per month
Everything in Essential, plus multiple team inboxes, a workflow automation builder, round robin assignment, a private multilingual help center and 20 free Lite seats.
Who it fits: growing customer support teams that need routing and automation. This is where most mid-size teams end up.
Expert: $132 per seat
Everything in Advanced, plus SSO and identity management, HIPAA support, SLAs, multibrand Messenger and help center, and 50 free Lite seats.
Who it fits: larger companies with security reviews, several brands or regulated data.
How much does Fin AI Agent cost?
Fin costs $0.99 per outcome. This is the line item that changes your bill the most, so it's worth understanding.
According to the pricing guide, an outcome is counted when the AI successfully delivers value in a conversation, and each conversation is billed at most once. Billable outcomes include:
- Resolutions (the AI answers and the customer doesn't need a person): $0.99
- Procedure handoffs and sales disqualifications: $0.99
- Sales qualifications: $9.99
You're not billed when the customer asks for a human, when the AI escalates (including when it detects frustration), when a procedure fails, or when the customer leaves after a question. You can also set a monthly outcome limit with alerts and a hard cap that sends conversations to your team.
The good news is that you only pay when the AI helps. The catch is that the better it works, the more you pay. If it resolves 2,000 conversations a month, that's about $1,980 on top of your seats. Budget for expected Fin outcomes from day one.
Intercom add-ons: Copilot, product tours and more
| Add-on | Price | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Copilot | $29 per agent per month | AI assistant for agents. 10 Copilot and 10 AI auto-translation conversations per agent per month are free. |
| Pro | From $100 / month | Advanced AI features for analytics and quality, plus Operator |
| Proactive Support Plus | $99 / month | Advanced in-app and outbound support: posts, checklists, tours, surveys and a Series campaign builder |
These are today's figures. The pricing guide, dated September 2026, lists slightly different numbers for some add-ons (for example $35 per user for unlimited usage of the agent assistant), so check at checkout. If you need tours, remember they sit in Proactive Support Plus, not in the base plans.
Channel costs: SMS, WhatsApp, phone and email
Live chat and normal support email are included. These are pay-as-you-go:
- Email campaigns: bulk outbound emails are charged per email sent. Inbox emails and replies are included.
- SMS: charged per message sent and received, varying by volume and region.
- WhatsApp: charged per conversation, varying by volume and direction.
- Phone: usage-based, per message or minute.
Exact channel rates aren't listed publicly, so check directly with Intercom sales if these channels matter to you. These are the closest thing to hidden fees in the model: not hidden, just easy to forget.
Real Intercom cost per month: three examples
Seat prices alone don't tell you much. Here are three example teams, using annual billing and list prices. These are our own rough calculations, not quotes.
| Example team | Seats | AI outcomes | Add-ons | Estimated monthly cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small shop: 2 agents on Essential, 300 resolutions | 2 x $29 = $58 | 300 x $0.99 = $297 | None | About $355 |
| Growing SaaS: 5 agents on Advanced, 1,000 resolutions, agent assistant add-on | 5 x $85 = $425 | 1,000 x $0.99 = $990 | 5 x $29 = $145 | About $1,560 |
| Larger team: 15 agents on Expert, 4,000 resolutions, Pro | 15 x $132 = $1,980 | 4,000 x $0.99 = $3,960 | $100 | About $6,040 |
Notice the pattern. For small teams, the AI can cost several times more than the seats. That isn't bad by itself, because each resolution saves an agent some work. But your real cost per conversation depends far more on usage than on the tier you pick.
Also not in the table: SMS, WhatsApp and phone usage, and sales qualifications at $9.99 each.
Free trial, discounts and the startup program
- Free trial: 14-day free trial, no card needed, add-ons included in the trial.
- New customer discount: Essential currently shows $19 instead of $29 for new customers.
- Startup program: Intercom advertises up to 93% off for eligible startups through an application.
- Annual billing: cheaper per seat than monthly.
- Contracts: larger customers can negotiate through sales.
Is Intercom worth the cost for customer support?
For a lot of companies, yes. Intercom is an AI-first customer service platform with a polished Messenger, strong in-app messaging for software products, guided tours, and enterprise features like SSO, SLAs and HIPAA support on Expert. If you're a funded SaaS company with a big support team, the price can make sense.
It's a harder sell when:
- You're a small team and seats plus AI outcomes grow faster than your revenue.
- Most of your customers message you on WhatsApp, Instagram or Messenger rather than inside an app.
- You want a predictable monthly bill instead of usage that grows with every resolution.
- Your budget is in taka or rupees and US dollar pricing hurts.
How to reduce your Intercom bill
- Set a monthly outcome limit so a busy month doesn't surprise you.
- Use Lite seats for teammates who only need to view or comment.
- Pay annually if you're sure you'll stay a year.
- Audit add-ons every quarter. Turn off Copilot or Proactive Support Plus if nobody uses them.
- Improve your help center. Clear articles mean more customers help themselves before a conversation starts.
- Review your existing Intercom setup before renewal: unused seats are the easiest saving.
Intercom alternatives: a lower-cost option
This is our product, so read it with that in mind. AnytimeReply is an AI customer support agent with a built-in helpdesk, priced differently:
- No per-seat fees. Team members are included: 3 on Free, 6 on Hobby, 15 on Standard and 45 on Pro.
- Flat monthly plans with AI credits. Free is $0 with 50 credits, Hobby is $9 with 1,500 credits, Standard is $29 with 5,000 credits and Pro is $79 with 15,000 credits. A standard model reply uses 1 credit. Replies your team writes and flow steps are free.
- Your own AI key from the Standard plan, so replies use no credits.
- Messaging channels first. Website chat, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Telegram, email and Slack in one place, with replies in the customer's language, including Bangla, Banglish, Hindi and Hinglish.
A rough example: a team of five handling 500 AI conversations a month at about 4 replies each needs around 2,000 credits. That fits in the Standard plan at $29 a month, with no extra charge for every agent you add. Prices can change, so see pricing on our pricing page.
Where Intercom is the better pick: deep in-app messaging and product tours for SaaS, enterprise security like SSO and HIPAA support, and phone and SMS channels, which AnytimeReply doesn't offer. Our full side-by-side is in AnytimeReply vs Intercom.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Intercom cost per month?
Seats cost $29 (Essential), $85 (Advanced) or $132 per seat per month (Expert), billed annually. The AI agent adds $0.99 per outcome, and some channels and add-ons cost extra. A small team often pays a few hundred dollars a month once the AI is included.
Is there a free version of Intercom?
No free plan is listed. You can start your free trial for 14 days with no credit card, and eligible startups get large discounts.
How is Fin AI Agent priced?
$0.99 per outcome, such as a resolution, with at most one outcome per conversation. Sales qualifications cost $9.99. You aren't charged when the AI escalates to a person.
Why is Intercom so expensive?
It combines per-seat subscription fees with usage-based AI charges, and many features sit on higher tiers or in add-ons. For big teams that need its depth, it can still be good value.
Can I pay Intercom monthly?
Yes, on Essential and Advanced, at a higher price than annual billing ($39 and $99 per seat per month, according to the pricing guide).
What about intercom installation cost for a building?
If you mean a door or building intercom system (for example a video intercom with access control), that's a different product from this software. Pricing varies with the system type, building size, number of doors and the installer. A simple wireless intercom for a home costs far less than an IP video system for an apartment block, which is often priced per door or per unit. Get quotes from local installers.
